About this painting: It is said that the Gods and the celestial beings requested the Bodhisattava who was living in Tushita Heaven in the North to take birth as Buddha on Earth. He was born to Queen Maha-Maya, the wife of King Shuddhodhan of Kapilvastu. The King was from the aristocratic ‘Sankhya’ clan. The baby boy was named Prince Siddhartha – which means ‘Wish Fulfilled’. His family name was ‘Gautama.
