About Dhiraj Choudhury

 1936 born Dhiraj Choudhury's work should classify as dynamic and line-based choreography. His restless line speaks volumes both in drawing as well as painting.His several portfolios of Drawings, some done abroad during his overseas travels, are a gem of art to be preserved for posterity. His paintings could well attract the epithet of "Saga".

 They are telling naratives on the contemporary situation – social as well as political. His characters defy tradition or iconographic nicities.They are provocative and ever more agile, bestowed with a pinching sense of humour, Dhiraj Choudhary makes his audience sit up and participate in the activity introduced in the picture space.

 Born in Bengal of the thirties, Dhiraj Choudhury has witnessed not only the incessant freedom struggle but also the great Bengal femine (1943)  which changed the image of the benevolent Raj periodically in the minds of the Indian people. Revolutionaries like Khudiram Bose, Aurobindo Ghosh, Rasbihari Bose, Subhash Chandra Bose etc have informed his mind of the realities of the contemporary India that was astir and moving ahead into a different national mould taking its place among the equals.

 On the credit side, Dhiraj Choudhary had worked as a professor of art in Delhi College of Art and has the distinction of training many a budding artists whose exemplary careers have brought good name both to the institution as well as its teachers. Dhiraj Choudhary besides his own creative endeavors has also designed and executed projects on humanity and social values, besides holding more than 75 solo shows of his own works, in India and abroad.
