About Arpita Pawar

‘Why should I draw / paint?’ – The answer to this question lies in the process of ‘feeling and expressing’. Self-expression is a fundamental need of every human being. The medium of expression varies with each person. Some personal feelings cannot always be expressed using words. To illustrate such emotions, to rid one’s mind of their clutter, everyone needs their own individual selection of medium. After exploring many such media, I picked drawing / painting. Although “Lalitkala” would be my most precise choice. Psychologically, Genetic and atmospheric factors were equally important. Hence, legacy of domestic and social environment around me also affected my decision. My father’s love of art inspired me. All these aspects later influenced my personal choices and honed my skills which resulted into my choice to be an artist. A sensitive mind is molded by various life experiences which result in formation of individual attitude. Normally, I play dual role, of an artist and a social citizen. While doing this, I see and experience a lot of things but not all my judgment is always expressed right away. I often find myself in need to just observe the things going on around me. This leads to a silent communication between the world and me, which then manifests as art on my canvas. This ‘silent communication’ converts into ‘colors’ and adorns my canvas to become ‘my art’. Hence my art doesn’t have a name; my art is simply expression of the untold stories of my heart Mostly, I like to work with Acrylic colors because those have a persona of their own. Not only do they have speed and mass but they also embody vividness which matches with my own personality. Earlier I used to work with a lot of colors but now I mainly focus on exploring various hues of Colours. It provides a challenging edge to my art which brings out the best in me. I love the process of “discovery”. Needless to mention, it also works out well economically as I like to use colors in abundant quantity while painting. my many painting has black and white. The color “black” appears to be intriguing, like deep darkness which seems to hold nothing but possibly holds many interesting things awaiting discovery. I want to go looking for these hidden opportunities. May be this search will awaken the dormant sensations in my heart and soul, and reflect those through my art. Just may be, this search will lead me to my own artistic truth. My art is open to interpretation by the viewer. They should see it, feel it and accept it in their own way. Since I and the viewers are different individuals, my art would speak differently to each of us. Fundamentally, my art is a story of my life experiences told in my own special way. To the base of it lie ‘seeds of creation’. All I expect is that, somewhere in there, the spectator finds ‘conception of my thoughts’. -Arpita Yogesh Pawar
